double down.

4-14_double-paradise-loop

it’s my first day back since that run-in I had with an asian lady on columbus last week.  long story short, I was at a light track-standing behind the crosswalk, and some old asian lady trying to catch the 30 stockton was running across the street (in the street) knocked me over.  I landed on my knee – at the time, it didn’t really bother me at all.  but by time the ride was over, I was feeling it.

anyway, after a week off the bike, my knee is feeling good.  not 100%, but good enough to get back on.  I met up with ben (twelveAM) at golden gate bridge, he was on his yamaguchi track.  he split at camino alto though, he told me he was just going to ride to tiberon and home.  I ended up doing a double paradise solo.  weather was sunny, air was brisk.  I love being back!

by the way, has anyone tried the kfc double down?  it looks straight killer.  in the bad way.  nearly half of your daily intake of sodium?  ownage.

congrats to rai for getting his 90′s caad track up and running!  hopefully your lungs will get better so you can start hitting it hard again.

I’ve been off the bike for almost a week now, since the accident.  turns out I bruised my knee cap…nothing too serious, but I’ve been taking time off to let it heal up.  soon to be back, hopefully wednesday!

double trouble.

4-7_double-paradise-loop

ben and I hit paradise loop hard today, twice.  oddly enough, ben felt a bit more winded on the road bike than I did on the track bike.  we came to the conclusion that the pedaling momentum was better transferred through the track bike than the road bike, on paradise drive at least.

hilarious: on my way out to meet ben at the golden gate bridge, I was track-standing at a light on columbus.  I’m at the line of the crosswalk, and the next thing I know, an asian lady with a purple jacket runs straight into me.  she was outside of the crosswalk…and naturally, I fall over.  besides my arm and knee bleeding a little, I was okay.  then on our way back to san francisco, on the golden gate bridge, a tourist riding one of those rent-a-bikes jabs my rib with his handlebar grip.  I wish I could say it felt nice.

besides the massive amounts of careless tourists and asians out today, it was epic out.

happy mid-week, everyone.  don’t end up with bleeding arms and legs.

mix it up.

I’m usually not a fan of trick (track) bikes, but something about this one is quite appealing.

paul cranks to boot.

yea I jacked it off zlog, agh!

rain? rain.

4-4_rain

today, I wanted to get a short city spin recovery ride in before the rain hit.  decided to bring out the track bike for good measure.  haven’t touched it in a week and a half, and for the short amount of time I was on it today, it was awesome.  I only made it out to haight before the drizzle saturated the ground…and since tire traction is a much needed asset to the friction between the rear tire and the ground, I figured it’d be rather risky and not worth it.

there’s nothing like riding a track bike, that’s for sure – the spin, the torque, a very efficient drivetrain (no power-suck from derailleurs, or even derailleurs and gears to think about).  there’s a give and take, I appreciate the road and track bike in different ways.  one things for sure though, the track bike definitely has a taller bottom bracket.  by a lot.  sitting tall, you don’t even know.

I can’t wait to start riding it again.

4-3_double-paradise-loop

I opted to do a double paradise loop instead of an alpine dam.  the loop itself is 20mi, exactly.  so the first one was a big ring crush, and the second was more like spin city.  round trip of about 70mi, perfect cruise on a sunny day.

when I first jumped on the bike it was a bit awkward, the handlebars seemed to be so much more narrow than the bmx bike, ha.  after a couple miles, the feeling and spin came back to me.  WHAT A FEELING.  however, I will say that brand new capo arm warmers are loose and sloppy…I guess I have to wash them for them to shrink a tad.

can’t wait to have the caad9 2.0′d.  yea, I just made that a verb.  here’s the 2.0 component list:

- dura-ace 7900 shifters, front and rear derailleurs – the enduro ceramic derailleur pulleys will be swapped from the ultegra rear to the DA7900

- dura-ace 7900 chain and cassette, 12-23 (still contemplating a 12-25 though)

- rear wheel: tune mag 150 hub, cx-ray spokes (radial non-drive, 2x drive), reynolds strike rim, continental gp4000 (or maybe something else…we’ll see), c-4 ul ti quick release

- front wheel: tune mig 45 hub, cx-ray spokes (radial), reynolds strike rim, continental gp4000, c-4 ul ti quick release

- swiss stop yellow brake pads

- elite race bottle cages

- black thomson masterpiece, setback

let’s gooooo uncle sam!  I hope my tax return shows up in a couple weeks…haha

4-2_190e-2.3

look at what’s parked outside right now.  you guessed right, a 190e 2.3 on (what looks to be) ronal ls mesh rims.  dog-legged 5-speed transmission and all.

so sick.

express shipping from israel pays off – got this in 5 business days, SICK.

alpine dam saturday + more?  we’ll see.  can’t wait to wear it out riding.

4-1_ocean-beach

rode out to ocean beach as an april fools joke.  I got myself pretty good.  16mi round-trip was a bit exhausting, but made me appreciate the bike a lot more.  distance can be done, but it’s a lot more downtown/street friendly.  and don’t mind the hilariously blurry picture.  maybe one day I’ll invest in a nicer phone with 5mp and a higher ISO.

april fools.
