ideum and ube teamed up to make this shirt, showcased here by our very own steve tortorelli. ube has been custom painting frames (and other bike components) here in san francisco for over a year now, one of the first bikes he ever painted was steve’s nagasawa. definitely check out his website, ube’s ice cream shop, and swoop on the shirt at ideum, if you’re interested.
thanks for the heads up, pc!

enve composites (formally known as edge composites) is an ever growing name in the cycling industry. their lightweight carbon wheels and componentry have been blessing bikes from every single genre of cycling. you see them at races laced to dt swiss 240′s, at the track laced to record or dura-ace hubs, on unitedhealthcare bikes laced to chris king hubs, and even at the north american handmade bicycle show. they’re experts in complete carbon fiber wheels (clincher and tubular), and unlike reynolds they provide standard and tapered forks, stems, seatposts, and handlebars for mountain and road bikes. reynolds used to make forks as well, but they stopped production a while back. enve is now the go-to for aftermarket forks. from my own personal experience, their customer service is awesome as well (they replaced my old edge fork with a brand new enve road 2.0, tapered fork!).
now, who is simon smart…? he’s a top aerodynamicists and has worked with formula 1, giant, and scott (specifically the f01l). the smart enve system consists of 3 wheelsets that were developed to create the most aerodynamically stable wheels across various bikes. their wind tunnel tests were done a cannondale supersix, cervelo p3, trek speed concept 9.8, and specialized tarmac. the wheelsets:
3.4 – 35mm front, 45mm rear, 1250g (dt swiss 240′s, sapim cx-ray spokes)
6.7 – 60mm front, 70mm rear, 1415g
8.9 – specs to be announced shortly.
the 6.7 tubulars will be shipping in june.

regardless of how you feel about rapha, you have to admit, their continental “team” footage is inspiring. riding roads all across north america for the sheer experience of it. now that sounds like fun.
thanks bike rumor!

paolo trialongo (astana) takes the uphill finish for the giro d’italia stage 19. the stage had 2 climbing sections: the mottarone category 1 climb (14km long) and the macugnaga category 3 finishing climb (28km long!).
contador (saxobank) sitting comfortably in the general classifications, allowed paolo to take the win in front of him. again, this is because he isn’t a gc threat, but it’s sure nice of him to do. I wonder if he still feels guilty about dropping andy schleck at last year’s tour de france when andy locked up his chain…

hug it out.
the tour of belgium might not be as big as the giro d’italia, but taking wins at the pro level still deserves a little bromance.

eros capecchi (liquigas-cannondale) took stage 18 of the giro d’italia, making the escape from the peleton by 1:20, along with marco pinotti (htc-highroad) and kevin seeldraeyers (quick step).
pro. contador (saxobank), scarponi (lampre), and nibali (liquigas-cannondale) are still holding their spots in the general classifications. only 3 more days of racing to go.
thanks to pez for the shot!

my favorite view of san francisco. previous to the climb from 7th, I rode along the coast from crissy/marina to lincoln, legion, ocean beach, golden gate park, and on. road cyclists looked as confused as tourists were as I passed. is it a road bike, single speed, or a track bike…hmmm.
two sky shots from yesterday.

vincenzo nibali’s cannondale supersix evo. all business.
even with the srm powermeter, the bike still comes under the weight of the uci standard. here’s the 3/4lb weight that hangs in the seat tube. the notch at the end hooks to the water bottle bolt. steel weights on the inside of the plastic sleeve can be added or removed depending on wheel setup. pro status.
internally routed rear brake cable. very sleek.
fully sealed cables. and an adhesive white covering to protect chain stay from chain slap, I’m assuming.
bike radar tech!
