saturday’s ride.

I caved in and wore some long finger gloves today.  best decision all week!  it was about 2 degrees warmer out today in marin, but the bite of the cold was still out there.  I was glad to have warm hands through the whole ride.  even when the sun came up, my palms weren’t getting clammy or hot.  comfort is king.

there’s this guy on a black fixed gear with red rims, risers and grips that always seems to be heading out towards marin from the embarcadero when I leave.  I’ve seen him 3 weeks in a row on saturday.  and then I always tend to see him just coming into tiburon, as I’m heading back in towards the city.  today, he recognized me at the fountain, and we had some passing words about paradise loop.  maybe, he’ll be my new random saturday san francisco to tiburon rider guy.  after leaving him, I rode onto the bike path back to sausalito.  just another quiet morning.  I approached one of the bigger intersections and travis (metromint) rode up next to me.  him and connor were out doing half paradise this morning, so we talked a bit before they split off to go to a garage sale (I think).

good seeing you guys out!  I’m actually heading to the shop in a bit to get more chamois cream…there’s just never enough.

friday’s ride.

I love clear, sunny mornings.  the horizon was lit up a little this morning so it wasn’t completely pitch black outside when I left the house.  the paths were clear, once again, and I noticed that the newly repaved path through the small park at fort mason had fresh, white pedestrian/bike lines on it.  that should definitely clear up any confusion for riders and runners alike.  it used to be just a mess as the day progressed.  it really made no sense, initially.  cyclists were trying to stay to the right hand side, but the path just veered left, as your coming down from the park.  anyway, it’s much more clear now, thank goodness.

after dropping into sausalito, the weather really started cooling down.  the cold started seeping into my hands, arms, and legs – for a brief moment, I thought maybe I should start wearing wind gloves, but luckily, camino alto came.  the combination of tree coverage and slower riding meant that I had a chance to take advantage of the break in cold weather. the temperature dropped again on the descent.  then it started slowly coming back up as I made my way around tiburon.  they’re doing construction on the same portion of road (second half of paradise drive) as last time, and I was stuck behind a car and a stop sign for a couple minutes.  after it cleared up, I was on my way, once again.

possibly leg warmers and long finger gloves for tomorrow’s ride.  maybe just the gloves…not completely sold on full warmers just yet.

earthquake(s).

october 27th, 2011 at 5:36am:  a 3.6 magnitude quake originating in berkeley shook across to san francisco this morning.  I was dozing off into another sleep cycle when it happened, and wasn’t sure if what I felt was an earthquake or not.  but as soon as I checked the usgs website, it was apparent that another small quake had happened.  view the full stats on usgs.

october 20th, 2011 at 8:16pm:  we just had a second earthquake, almost equal in magnitude to the first (see below).  it’s been listed as a 3.9 magnitude quake, also originating from berkeley.  view the full stats on the quake on the usgs website.

october 20th, 2011 at 2:41pm:  we had a brief 4.0 magnitude earthquake here in the bay area, originating in berkeley.  it felt like someone drove a car into a nearby wall for a second, it was spooky.  I’m happy to report that the bikes are still stable on the wall, and the only thing to be shaken up on my desk is my water bottle.  check more details on the usgs website.

stay safe everyone!
