Michael Matthews (Rabobank) took a narrow sprint victory ahead of Michael Schär (BMC) and Brent Bookwalter (BMC), on stage 3 of the Tour of Utah.
Johann Tschopp (BMC), Matthews, Thomas Rohregger (RadioShack-Nissan), Timmy Duggan (Liquigas-Cannondale), and Philip Deignan (UnitedHealthcare) formed the day’s break. They built up a 4 minute lead at the foot of the penultimate climb – Garmin-Sharp began chasing from the peloton and reduced the gap to one minute as the break crested the climb. Tschopp attacked while the break was being caught from behind, but was also caught shortly thereafter. Christian Vande Velde (Garmin – Sharp) continues to lead in the GC ahead of teammates Thomas Danielson and David Zabriskie.
