Tyler Farrar (Garmin-Sharp) took his second stage victory on the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, winning in Colorado Springs ahead of Taylor Phinney (BMC) and Alessandro Bazzana (Team Type 1 – Sanofi).
Francisco Colorado (EMP-UNE), Vincenzo Nibali (Liquigas-Cannondale), Carter Jones (Bissell Pro Cycling), Oliver Zaugg (RadioShack-Nissan), Ivan Santamorita (BMC), Sergey Firsanov (RusVelo), Yevgeniy Nepomnyachshiy (Astana) and Biao Liu (Champion System) formed the day’s break on the opening climb. They reached a maximum lead of 5:40 – by time they hit the second intermediate sprint of the day, their lead was down to 2 minutes. Jones attacked out from the break with 26km remaining – Nibali countered with Zaugg and Firsanov. The trio led the chasing peloton by 20 seconds with 11km remaining.
No changes to the GC with Tejay van Garderen (BMC) still leading Christian Vande Velde (Garmin – Sharp) and Ivan Rovny (RusVelo) by 6 seconds.
