no rain?  hell yes, finally, a dry morning out in marin.  I also had this weird/fun idea for pre-dawn rides and the daily shot.  maybe it won’t last, and I’ll get tired of it.  but I was thinking about writing a tanka, a japanese poem with 5-7-5-7-7 syllables, encompassing my ride.  writing about the same things over and over again in paragraph format is a bit bland, so hopefully compressing a 2 hour ride into just 5 lines of text will make it more meaningful.  plus, I’m pretty sure it’ll be much more fun to write, and maybe more entertaining to read, haha!

darkness.

3-15_rodeo-beach

of course, the day that I actually do bring out my rain shell, it doesn’t rain at all.  okay, it drizzled for about 5 minutes total, but still.  either way, it was just as dark as yesterday as I headed out.  and the ground was still saturated with water, which was a pain.  the water isn’t as much of an issue as the darkness though.  but on that note, the sky seemed to be lit a bit more earlier on in the morning.  hopefully, it’ll continue to get lighter.

and I hope the rain goes away.

daylight fail.

3-14_rodeo-beach

and here I thought the sun would be rising earlier, my mistake.  I mentioned earlier that morning rides wouldn’t be so dark because of daylight savings time.  daniel told me on saturday that the sun would actually be rising later, which didn’t seem to make too much sense to me at the time.  but obviously, this morning was a grim reminder that what he said was true.  it was absolutely pitch black for a long time.  I took the shot above after riding around rodeo beach, it was 7:09am.  the sky was barely lit, and the sun wasn’t out.  as a side note, the weather wasn’t great either.  I took a peak out of the window before heading out, it wasn’t raining at all.  the ground was wet from the rain overnight – the radar wasn’t picking up any condensation in the air.  I figured I wouldn’t need a rain shell.

wrong!  it started heavily drizzling as I came to the embarcadero.  it picked up even harder as I made my way across the bridge.  and by time I rode to the point in the picture above, I was soaked.  granted, it wasn’t a bone chilling rain, the air was thick and humid most of the time.  but still.  unfortunately, the sun will be rising later, I should really be taking it nice and easy on the roads.  there aren’t any street lights out on the headlands, it’s dark!
